WhatsApp QR Code Generator

Anyone who sells or offers support over WhatsApp knows the friction: the person has to note the number down, leave the camera, open the app, type the number, save the contact and only then send a message. Half of them give up along the way. A WhatsApp QR Code removes every one of those steps — point the camera and the chat opens, with an opening message ready if you want one.

How it works underneath

There is no magic and no integration: the code stores an ordinary wa.me link followed by your number and, optionally, some predefined text. It is an address WhatsApp itself publishes and maintains, and phones know that links like this should open the app rather than the browser.

One useful consequence: whoever scans does not need to save your number to start chatting. The conversation opens straight away, which cuts drop-off sharply.

The number format is what usually breaks

The link requires the number in international format, digits only, with no plus signs, brackets, dashes or spaces. That means:

• The country code — 1 for the United States and Canada, 44 for the United Kingdom, 55 for Brazil.
• The area code, without any leading zero. A London number is "20", not "020".
• The subscriber number.

A London number written as +44 (0)20 7946 0958 becomes 442079460958. Dropping the country code is the most common mistake, and the symptom is distinctive: WhatsApp opens and warns that the number is invalid or has no account.

We automatically strip the symbols you type, but the country code has to be there.

How to create yours

1. Type the number with the country code, for example +1 555 123 4567.
2. Write the opening message, if you want the chat to start with ready-made text.
3. Adjust the colors and, if it suits your brand, place your logo in the centre.
4. Download as SVG for stickers, packaging and posters; as PNG for social media.

The ready-made message is where the value is

This field is usually underused. When the message comes pre-written, you learn where the contact came from without asking — and the person does not have to think about what to say, which noticeably increases the number of chats actually started.

The useful technique is to identify the source in the text itself. If you use different codes in different places, each with a slightly different message, your chat history becomes a report on which channel brings the most contacts:

• On product packaging: "Hi! I bought the product and have a question."
• On a shop window poster: "Hello! I saw the poster in the store and would like prices."
• On a menu: "Hi! I would like to place a delivery order."
• At a trade show booth: "Hello! We met at the show and I would like to continue the conversation."

Short messages work better. Long text feels automated and some people delete it before sending.

Personal account, Business and the native QR Code

The code generated here works with any account, personal or Business. It is worth knowing how it differs from the code WhatsApp itself offers:

• The native WhatsApp Business QR Code points to your profile, but allows no predefined message and no visual customisation, and changes if you regenerate the link.
• The code generated here accepts an opening message, your brand colors and a logo in the centre, and exports as SVG — which matters when it is headed for a print shop.

If you use WhatsApp Business, a combination that works well is pointing the QR Code at a chat with a ready message and configuring quick replies for the most frequent topics.

Things to watch

• If the number changes, the code stops working. Before printing in volume, consider pointing the QR Code at an address on your own site that redirects to WhatsApp — that way you can change the number without reprinting.
• Check that the number has an active WhatsApp account before sending anything to the printer.
• Scan the printed code with a phone that does not have your contact saved. That is the test that exposes number-format errors.
